  5. You must first install the Video for Windows runtime player and
  6. decompressors for the movies to work.  This is in addition to the
  7. regular Wizard Setup program. To install the Video for Windows runtime
  8. player, go to the Windows Program Manager and select FILE, then RUN,
  9. and type "L:\VFWSETUP\SETUP" (where L is the letter of your CD-ROM
  10. drive). Even if you already have Video for Windows loaded, you will
  11. still need to run this setup program to load the SuperMatch
  12. Cinepak(TM) decompressor.

  14. The MPC Wizard now requires Windows version 3.1 in order to run
  15. properly.

  27. Welcome to Aris Entertainment's MPC Wizard(TM) ver. 2.0! Thank you for
  28. your purchase. The MPC Wizard was produced to help owners of
  29. multimedia PCs correctly configure their systems. The CD contains
  30. tests for MPC compatibility, as well as the largest collection of
  31. Windows(TM) 3.1 drivers on a single disc. Many new features have been
  32. added to version 2 of this popular CD-ROM title, including:

  56. Instructions for Using the MPC Wizard
  57. -------------------------------------

  59. It's easy to navigate through the MPC Wizard. Click one of the big
  60. buttons on the left to go to any of the program's main sections. Then
  61. read the information contained in the section's text window. Some
  62. sections have buttons at the bottom half of the screen that let you go
  63. to a sub-section, perform a test, get Troubleshooting Tips, etc. Read
  64. the text in each screen's text window for an explanation of them. When
  65. you want to move on to another main section, just click another one of
  66. the big buttons on the left. Click the exit button to quit the MPC
  67. Wizard.

  69. You can also navigate through the program using the keyboard. A
  70. rectangular dotted line indicates the button that has the focus. Use
  71. the TAB key to move the focus to the button you want to choose. Then
  72. choose the button by pressing the ENTER key.
  73.  
  74. When you're reading text in a text window, you can use the following
  75. keys:
  76.  
  77.   * PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys to jump through several lines of text,
  78.   * UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to move up or down one line,
  79.   * HOME and END keys to go to the beginning or end of the text.

  81. The drivers on the MPC Wizard CD are provided by Aris Entertainment as
  82. a public service. They were the latest ones given to us by graphics,
  83. sound, and CD-ROM device manufacturers when this disc was produced,
  84. and are located in the \WIZSETUP directory of the CD. Please follow
  85. the instructions in the INSTALL DRIVER section of the MPC Wizard
  86. before attempting to install any drivers on your system.

  92. The rights to the programs on the CD are owned by their respective
  93. manufacturers and are provided "AS IS" exclusively for their
  94. customers. They may not be redistributed in any form (including on a
  95. BBS) without the express written permission of the manufacturer. Aris
  96. Multimedia Entertainment, Inc. disclaims all warranties, expressed or
  97. implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular
  98. purpose.

  100. Aris Entertainment will supply technical support for "The Best of
  101. Media Clips" program included on the MPC Wizard CD. However, Aris will
  102. NOT provide technical support for any of the drivers distributed on
  103. the disc. If you encounter problems with any driver, please contact
  104. the specific manufacturer. A main, BBS, or technical support number
  105. for each driver manufacturer is contained in a README.TXT file located
  106. in the manufacturer's subdirectory in the \WIZSETUP directory. If a
  107. manufacturer requested that we include demos or utilities with its
  108. driver, these programs can also be found in that manufacturer's
  109. respective subdirectory.

  111. Users of Quarterdeck's QEMM or other expanded memory managers who are
  112. installing new graphics drivers may need to add an EXCLUDE switch to
  113. the line that loads the program in their AUTOEXEC.BAT. See your memory
  114. manager's documentation for details.

  116. If necessary, see your "Windows User's Guide" for more information on
  117. installing drivers not supplied with Windows. Windows 3.1 users
  118. installing graphics drivers can also check the section "Using Specific
  119. Display Adapters with Windows Version 3.1" in the file README.WRI,
  120. located in the Windows directory.

  122. The MPC Wizard will be regularly improved and updated. If there are
  123. other drivers or features you would like to see included, please
  124. contact Aris Entertainment. If you are interested in receiving updates

  145. Please note that, while you are given royalty-free limited-use rights
  146. to use the images and sounds on The Best of Media Clips, they are
  147. nonetheless copyrighted materials owned by Aris Entertainment and the
  148. participating artists. You are permitted to reproduce royalty-free--in
  149. print and digital publications--any of the image and sound files in
  150. the Best of Media Clips, except that resale in the form of clip art
  151. collections or as clip art is not permitted. Users must not reproduce
  152. more than 20% of the individual pictures, sounds, or videos without
  153. the prior written permission of Aris Multimedia Entertainment, Inc.
  154. Reproduction of currency images is restricted by law. The restrictions
  155. vary from country to country, and may prohibit the user from making

  182. General Information

  185. Buttons in the program may be used with a mouse or with the TAB and
  186. ENTER keys. The TAB key moves from button to button, and the ENTER key
  187. selects. To find out what each button does, just press the button
  188. labeled "?" on the "Control Panel" (button bar) in the program, or
  189. double-click the "Best of Media Clips Help" icon installed in your
  190. Program Manager when you ran SETUP.
  191.  
  192. Every attempt has been made to provide MPC-compatible content,
  193. both in images (BMP format) and sound (WAV format). The sounds have
  194. been tested with MPC-compatible sound boards and are of high-enough
  195. quality for multimedia presentations (22 kHz, mono). You must have an
  196. MPC-compatible sound board with a speaker or headphones to hear the
  197. WAV files. The Media Vision ProAudio Spectrum and the Sound Blaster
  198. Professional sound boards were used in the development of this
  199. product. They are both easy to install and work well.
  200.  
  201. If the sound breaks up, try to increase the buffering done by Windows.
  202. To do this, go to the Main Window, select Control Panel, then select
  203. Drivers. Double click on the MCI Sound selection and move the slider
  204. to 9 seconds of buffering. If this doesn't entirely solve the problem,
  205. you may need to increase the memory buffering in the MSCDEX statement
  206. in your AUTOEXEC.BAT (the /M: command).  Try increasing it to 16 or
  207. 20.
  208.  
  209. Pictures were meant to be displayed with a 256-color 640 x 480 Windows
  210. graphics driver. If you don't have such a driver, see if a compatible
  211. one is included on the MPC Wizard CD. Run the MPC Wizard program and
  212. see the INSTALL DRIVER section for details. You must have at least
  213. 512K of video RAM on your graphics device in order to view 256 colors
  214. at VGA resolution. If you can't find a compatible graphics driver on
  215. the MPC Wizard CD, contact the manufacturer of your graphics device,
  216. or the company that sold it to you.

  222. The Best of Media Clips includes 60 high-quality images, 60 sound
  223. tracks, and 8 videos.

  225. Still images are stored in several formats for your convenience:
  226.  
  227.       1. 24-bit .TIF, in 640 x 480 format, for high resolution paint
  228.           programs and desktop publishing, in the TIFF directory.
  229.           Users with Hi-Color or True-Color cards may view these
  230.           images with programs capable of 24-bit image display.
  231.       
  232.       2. 8-bit .PCX, 640 x 480 format, for most DOS paint programs,
  233.           in the PCX directory.
  234.       
  235.       3. 8-bit .BMP, 640 x 480 format, for compatibility with
  236.           Windows, in the BMPLARGE directory.

  238.       4. 8-bit .BMP, 320 x 240 format, for high-speed viewing, in the
  239.           BMPSMALL directory.

  242. Audio is in the 22 kHz, 8-bit, .WAV format, located in the WAVE
  243. directory.

  245. Videos are in the Video for Windows format (SuperMatch Cinepak
